Monday Motion: Plus an interview with Peter Bogdanovich on his conversations with filmmakers
Welcome back to Creativity News, via Monday Motion.
As always I want to thank you for all your support.
I also wanted to ask you to consider sending Laterally to a friend you know who would enjoy it.
A personal recommendation would go along way towards our growth.
Thank you for all you do, and all your kind words over the last several months.
I’m looking forward to our continued growth!
New threads at Micky D’s
You thought that fast food and modern runway fashion were bad separately.
Just watch them come together in horrible form for these new McDonald’s uniforms.
Or perhaps they ought to be called “costumes,” given that the employees won’t even be wearing them on the job.
We have a Finnish clothing brand called Vain to thank for these beauties.
Now, McDonald’s will be hurting both your stomach and your eyes.
There’s a time and a place for modern fashion.
The time is trash day. And the place is in the trash can.
The fashion world needs new ideas, namely ideas that adhere to a true sense of style and do not entail such risk of being publicly shamed when walking out the door,, wearing them.

New additions to the Intangible Cultural Heritage List
The pieces of world heritage that cannot be collected in museums are growing in cataloged number.
New additions this year include the French baguette, Chinese tea rituals, and Guatemala’s Holy Week.
If you’re not familiar with the list, it’s a treasure trove of authentically-sourced character that will scratch the intellectual itch of students of cultural studies, social science, anthropology, folkloristics, and so on.
The little details and pieces of our culture are beautiful fodder for curiosity, and thus they are nutrients for creativity.
After all, what feeds the imagination more than tradition?
It’s the rich cultural vibrancy of our forbears that helps to stimulate our minds to tracking down nuance and illustrating in vivid detail.
The inclusion of these diverse cultures in our global tally of the things that matter — that’s a wellspring of creativity.

Video of the Week
Filmmaker and film historian Peter Bogdanovich spoke with Charlie Rose in 1997 about his conversations with many great movie makers of the 20th century.
These talks informed his book Who The Devil Made It.
An interesting talk for those fascinated by the genealogy of this transforming and transformative art.
